Travel and Tourism in Turkey

The ratio of Turkey's tourism revenues to exports is between 18% and 30%.  It is an important sector for the country's economy.  Tourism activities in the country are under the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.  There are many touristic places that reflect the history and cultural richness of the country.

Turkey's largest metropolitan city is Istanbul.  The city itself contains many buildings from the ancient period.  These are buildings belonging to that period, as they were the capitals of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.  Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace are a few of them.  Other important tourism areas are in Cappadocia, Nemrut and Pamukkale regions.

The most important beaches start from the Aegean coast and end on the Mediterranean coast.  Antalya, Kushadasi, Marmaris, Cheshme, Fethiye, Bodrum are the most important holiday cities.

History of Turkey

Anatolian lands have been important routes for travelers and tourists since ancient times.  Religious places and thermal springs attracted attention in the First and Middle Ages.  After the Seljuk period, it attracted attention from tourists who wanted to get to know Seljuk architecture and culture.  In the Ottoman Empire, tourists from Europe, especially Austria, came to the Sergi-i Osmani Exhibition in large numbers.

Turkey Marine Tourism.

 The high sea water temperature and air temperature on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts cause the time to swim in the sea to be longer than the sunbathing time.  The large area of coves and gulfs has contributed greatly to the development of sea tourism.  For this reason, large hotels and holiday villages have been built on our coasts.

Turkey Cruise Tourism

 Tourism activity with cruise ships is concentrated in the Mediterranean.  The Mediterranean ranks third in world cruise tourism after the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Turkey Health Tourism

 Thermal tourism was very important in terms of domestic tourism in Turkey.  Turkey has 1300 thermal and more than 2000 healing water sources and for this reason, Turkey ranks 5th in the world.  Thermal springs have been used in Anatolian lands since the Hittite period until today.  At the same time, today Turkey has taken an important place in the world in the field of hair transplantation.

Turkey Winter Tourism

 Although it is not possible to extend winter tourism in Turkey throughout the year, the country ranks 18th in the world in terms of ski facilities.  Turkey's most important ski resorts are Palandoken, Kartepe, Kartalkaya, Sarikamish, Erciyes and Davraz Mountain.

Turkey Plateau Tourism

 Especially the Karadeniz Mountains and the Taurus Mountains have begun to develop in plateau tourism.  The Ministry of Culture of Turkey has designated 26 plateaus as tourism centers.  These are Bektash and Kumbet, Chambashi, Anzer, Ayder, Erikbeli and Sholma, Karadag, Kachkar, Kop Mountain, Zigana.
